Inayah Explains Why Therapy Wasn’t Enough on LOVERS by Shan

Houston R&B singer and songwriter Inayah gets honest about love, relationships, and learning how to stop running in a new episode of the LOVERS by Shan podcast.

The episode, titled “Therapy Wasn’t Enough. Here’s What Actually Had to Change,” focuses on what it means to be a “leaver”, someone who enters a relationship already watching for a reason to walk away.

For Inayah, leaving has often felt easier than staying and working through uncomfortable moments. During the conversation, she talks about what that mindset has cost her and what it takes to build a relationship when part of you is always prepared to leave.

Real change required her to respond differently when problems came up, remain present during difficult conversations, and stop treating every disagreement like a sign that the relationship should end.

Inayah also discusses the differences between herself and her partner. His traditional Jamaican values sometimes clash with her life as a modern American woman who has worked hard to build her career and independence.

Those differences bring up important questions about gender roles, communication, expectations, and compromise. How do you create a life together when both people have different ideas about what a relationship should look like? How do you compromise without feeling like you are losing yourself?

Inayah doesn’t pretend to have all the answers. She and her partner are still trying to understand each other and figure out what works for their relationship.

Before becoming known for her own music, Inayah gained widespread attention in 2018 with her viral cover of Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up.” The moment helped grow her audience and introduced listeners to a voice that would later become known for songs about emotional honesty, independence, love, and heartbreak.

Her public image has often been connected to strength and not needing a man. This conversation shows another side of that independence. Inayah talks about the difference between being strong enough to stand alone and being willing to stay emotionally present when you choose to love someone.

“Therapy Wasn’t Enough. Here’s What Actually Had to Change” is for anyone who loves someone but still struggles to put both feet into the relationship. It is also a reminder that healing is not only about understanding why you behave a certain way, but it is also about making a different choice when the same situation happens again.
